I am sucked into Bring Up The Bodies right now nicky and I am at the part where they are interrogating Mark Sweaton. I am noticing that how all these interrogating procedures are going in the book differ alot from how it played out on The Tudors. I know that both are fiction and neither are 100% accurate accounts of how anne's demise happened, but since you have done so much reading and researching on it, what is your honest opinion?

Was Anne an adulterous queen, or was she faithful and wrongly framed?

on the show, they painted it that she had innocent friendships with Mark and harry norris, etc and that she was wrongly painted as having affairs with them, the men and the ladies were forced into a false confession of such for the purposes of getting rid of her. In this book, it is portrayed that as Cromwell is trying to find a way to nullify the marriage, suddenly her ladies are coming voluntarily to him to just of their own accord, to tell him that yes, in fact, Anne does sleep with all these men and Mark himself boasting as such (in turn confessing) before he stupidly realizes he will be tried for it.

I honestly find it hard to believe that she would be stupid enough to have affairs with any man, let alone several, knowing henry as she does. She wasnt as young and stupid as her cousin, Katherine Howard was, afterall.

What do you think?

huge, complicated many-sided topic. For my part I think Anne was framed because she couldn't produce a boy and because she clashed with Cromwell over money to be distributed from the dissolution of the monasteries to more worthy causes. I think she was maybe a rather indiscreet flirt, but the one thing that COULD be plausible is that she realised that maybe something was wrong with the king rather than her and that she might conceive a son by another man that she could then pass off as his; she did tell her sister-in-law, Lady Rochford, that the King was impotent and had no skill as a lover. Plus all the records of her trial are lost so there may be stuff in there we'll never know

the records are lost? that is a bummer. Well he did then produce a son later with jane so his sexual problems couldnt have been a permanent thing. I wish we could know the truth.....

I will probably gobble up the rest of the book today I am so into it!

I finished it!!! VERY good book! I loved it! If I were Jane Seymour, I would not want to marry Henry after what he did to his first two wives. She was kind of crazy to do so, she was probably lucky she died in childbirth after only being married to him less than 2 years, cause god knows what could have happened had she lived.

So smeaton was the only one to really confess to sleeping with anne in this version. The way she wrote the others, gave me the impression that none of them probably slept with anne. I wonder why she wrote it that way where mark was def guilty, and the others probably not?

I don't believe Anne was cheating on Henry. Those men confessed to adultery with the Queen under torture. She was a brilliant woman and made an excellent defense of herself at her trial (kangaroo court). Most historians don't believe she was guilty but there's no doubt poor Katherine Howard was. Well what did the old goat expect at his age?

I know that Lady Rochford bitch claimed that Anne had said that about Henry being pants in bed but he was relatively young then and I'm not sure I believe her.

There was a lot of people who wanted her out of the way. I

The ironic thing is... Henry was obsessed with having a son to be remembered by. But what do we remember him for? Aside from being grossly fat and disposing of his wives, he is famous because he is the father of one of the greatest monarchs the world has ever known: Queen Elizabeth I, Anne's daughter.

Ok, I'm done. ;)

he wasnt young during his marriage to anne. he was in his 40's and already fat and had that bad leg....but he also still carried on with mistress's during his marriage to her so he must have been able to work it....at least some of the time anyways

he didnt have a problem making boys....he made a lot more male babies than female, just that all his males that he made were sick and died or miscarried, except for of course his two bastard sons (Henry Fitzroy and Mary Boleyn's son by him)
