Well...it was "unique". I loved how the biggest cheer was for all the volunteers. The NHS appreciation piece was pretty cool. They weren't afraid to get a bit scary what with Voldemort and all. Then again-it's not about the ceremony,after all. It's about the athletes. Hopefully, there's gonna be a medal for holland, tonite in the pool!

OMG! This German official dude was waving during the ceremony but,unwittingly made it look like the "Hitler-salute" You can see Boris Johnson nudging Camilla and pointing it out to her. Her reaction is priceless; she mouths "What the..." and then, both start laughing. There must be a youtube vid of it, They just showed it on dutch tv.

When the Germans marched through i turned to James and commented on what a boisterous bunch they are. I did like that one boy was carrying another one piggyback.

The germans made a fashion faux-pas. THE SAME horrendous outfits from Vancouver 2010! I thought they were awful but, you can never fault the Germans for their enthusiasm.

OMG! Dan you are going to LOOOOOVE Louis Smith, then. Gorgeous gymnast. He was overcome by emotion after he finished his routine on pommel horse. I remember him from Beijing.And i'm soooo happy for him to have hung on for four more years. Too lazy to look for a pic, now.

Shit....the dutch swimmers did'nt manage to win another gold after Beijing. Silver...blegh. it's a good achievement but, they were expected to win the gold. anchor swimmer Ranomi: "we did'nt win the silver; we lost the gold"

I'm watching some gymnastics tomorrow! The cycling today was pretty dull. Trying to be enthusiastic about sport but I'd rather be doing something than watching it.

I'm probably the only person on the Forum who watches lots of sports inbetween the olympics:P. I don't mind cycling.. But, i don't have the patience for an entire Tour de France. and road-races are the worst; the same lap over and over. Felt sorry for Cavendish but, you can't blame his non-British-Sky-mates for not helping out. Track cycling is way more fun to watch.(Go, Chris Hoy!)

will be watching womens' gymnastics tomorrow.Have seen all major tournaments since the "Magnificent 7" in Atlanta).And thanks to Youtube; i have been able to see the various teams taking shape since the last olympiad. Mildly obsessed;Ask me about routines, startvalues, athletes, elements, injuries....i'll probably know. US, China, Romania and Russia will most likely, make the team finals so; i'll be rooting for team GB to make the top8,as well. And I hope Beth Tweddle makes the individual uneven-bars finals!She has a very high level of difficulty,great to watch. Watch out for american McKayla Maroney on vault. The highest, most perfect 2.5 twisting "yurchenko", ever:P

i started noticing him about a year ago. good highbar-worker and yes...he is kinda hot. it's the big lips. Louis is hotter,tho:P Danelle is quite tall for a gymnast; we like that. Most male gymnasts look like hobbits on steroids. seen Jonathon Horton, yet? Total hobbit!

I remember Leyva hitting his chin on the highbar after missing a release.last year. Broke off a tooth. wanted to nurse him back to health.:P

That's mean! did he do or say something, nasty?or claimed to be THE contender for the title? No! he swam and came in 4th. You leave him and his "special-needs"-looking face, alone! you're not a sportsfan!

He shouldn't be appearing in commercials with his momma and trying to be the poster boy for the "best athlete" ever!! Really? Best ever? Granted to do what them swimmers do it tough, but hardly deserved of the best athlete title just because you have a bunch of medals. Best swimming athlete yes.

Hate the hype but, don't hate the special-needs-faced-guy!You're just jealous that nobody worships YOU as a demigod! Unfortunately, becoming the Darck Lord isn't an olympic sport :) .
And there is no "best athlete" ever. Every country has a "best athlete" ever. it's just a slogan-not to be taken literally. A real sportsfan knows that.

I don't see it as "crowning" athletes as demigods. I see it as nothing different than being a fan of a singer,actor,writer,band,whatever.some are hyped, some aren't.
And one must say;3 Olympics, more Olympic medals than any other individual athlete at a single games, worldrecord-holder,multilple world titles;He is one of the greatest athletes, ever. He can make as many silly, overhyped, commercials as he wants for all I care...and becoming the 4th fastest medley-swimmer in the world instead of the fastest at your 3d Olympics? Not bad...

Only watched like few minutes of the opening ceremonies. To me they are always boring and very tacky.

Not going to watch much sports either, I really haven't cared for ages.

we'll watch the archery cos theo is interested in it and the mountain biking n bmx but thats all we're really wanna see

Well done to the brits in gymnastics. the women made the team final AND Beth has got the highest score on uneven bars,so far. I really hopes she gets a medal in the event-finals
The americans are still the clear favourites. Kind of disappointed in Jordyn Wieber. she did not make the all around final; she's the reigning world champ. As i predicted; McKayla Maroney got the highest score on vault and posted the highest execution score of the tournament; 9.6! That is damn near perfect.i don't think we're gonna see another E-score like that

Felt sorry for Radwanska in the tennis event. she did so well at the wimbledon tournament. Rooting for Serena and Roger.

looking forward to the swimming, tonight. watching a recap of the US basketball team. I love it how they turn it into a "show" once they have a comfortable lead. Normally don't care for basketball. But, it's different during the olympics:P
